THE NEW CONCEPT ALBUM
COMING SOON
The new musical drama SOVIET ZION tells the story of two families who move to Siberia
participating in the real-life movement to create there a Yiddish-speaking, Socialist Utopia.
Set against a grand historical backdrop, the story of these characters' intertwining lives
explores questions of identity, integrity, nationhood ...and what happened to this alternative homeland.
Plans are underway to create a concept album of this ambitious through-composed book-musical
by Giles Howe, Katy Lipson and Roberto Trippini with extraordinary new orchestrations by Brian Freeland and an accompanying Yiddish translation by Gittel Schwartz.
A selection of demos from the forthcoming concept album

INSPIRATION
A collection of images taken in Birobidzhan around the time the show is set.
In 1928 first Jewish homeland of the modern era was created not in Israel, but in the far-east of the Soviet Union.
Thousands came from not only all over the USSR but the whole world to pioneer this unique endeavor.
Though most who made the long journey to the Jewish Autonomous Oblast quickly returned home defeated by the harsh reality that awaited them there, this musical drama looks at the lives of an American family and a European family who stay - and how they must rise to the challenges they face in achieving the freedom they seek.
For further information about the Jewish Autonomous Oblast
where the musical SOVIET ZION is set, you may wish to visit
